Foreclosure 1099

How can I get to deduct mortgage interest on a foreclosure?
Excluding a house, I would be issued a 1099-A or debt could be forgiven, but not both. In the 1099-A is not just the taxes you pay from the Fed if you do not qualify for the Mortgage Debt Relief Act or the state gets a piece too. I do not know anyone who has to pay 1099-A in these situations.
Unless you have paid the interest, you do not get a deduction. Regarding the 1099-A,. representing the "sale or other disposition" of property. Report of the "sale" in Appendix D. You only have tax if you have a gain. The rules for the 1099-C are different. See IRS Publication 4681.
